Introduction:
Image Modern construction projects are marked for their size, complexity in design, and speed of execution. They call for large amount of resources to be used, which include materials, manpower, equipment and finance. Most of the projects work under conditions of scarcity of resources, nearly all suffers from uncertainty in their supply. Delay in completion of the works results in increasing costs, and there is an intricate time-cost relationship for every project. The need for proper planning and management of construction can never be over -emphasized.

The Bachelor of Science in Construction curriculum is designed to provide a solid academic base and professional expertise in the discipline of construction management and to critically address the present and evolving needs of the construction industry. In order to perform successfully in the construction industry, students must develop an understanding of the technical aspects of construction while applying useful construction management practices and tools to maintain control and provide informed, optimal decisions. The programme focuses on the understanding of construction technology, construction management and production management processes. The programme also addresses the generic skills and capabilities necessary to compete in the employment market.

BSc Construction is a combination of engineering technology, construction techniques and management. The program is designed to prepare students for management positions in the construction industry. At a personal level, the graduate will be stimulated to adopt a professional and ethical approach that will allow personal development, foster self -respect and improve career aspirations.
Programme Aim & Objectives:

The aim of the programme is identified into two main domains i.e. technical knowledge and competencies, and generic skills as follows:

  • To produce graduates with the necessary management and technical knowledge, skills and capabilities to undertake the tasks in the field of construction management which in line with the national aspirations and be able to compete globally.
  • To produce graduates who are able to communicate effectively, work in a team, adapt readily to changing situations with problem -solving ability and lifelong learning outlook, high self -esteem and guided by high ethical and moral values.


After completing the programme, students should have the ability to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of specific facts to complete theories and principles of construction management and construction technology Apply techniques, skills and tools of project management, construction technology, broad-based management and construction business to the practice of construction management.
  • Identify analyses and solves problems, evaluate alternative options and proposed appropriate solutions through the integration of knowledge of project management, construction technology, broad -based management, and construction business.
  • Develop arguments and communicate ideas clearly, concisely and logically in spoken, written and numerical form as appropriate.
  • Work collaboratively as p art of a team undertaking a range of different team roles.
  • Learn independently and understand new concepts and develop awareness of the scope, constraints and opportunities of construction management profession to the overall construction process.
Programme Structure:

The program is taught in English and/or Bahasa Malaysia according to the current course curriculum system which is divided according to specific subject areas:

  • Construction Technology
  • Construction Management
  • Construction Economic and Finance
  • Legal Studies
  • Professional Studies


The subject areas will be taught through:

  • Studio work and site visits.
  • Lectures
  • Tutorials / Seminar
  • Specific research and studies
Targeted Groups:

Students with interests in construction technology and management, construction economics and finance.
